Iron Dust: T1BL33 in the Salt Lakes

Another piece of concept art, this one is of T1BL33 traveling through the salt lakes while a vulture enemy watches him from the top of a telephone pole.

Hey everybody! Team5 update on T1bl33! We are working on a storyboard for the first official T1bl33 trailer and it's gonna be cool! We are also looking at libgdx for coding as it allows us to code java-style across different platforms so we can test it on our computers as well as for the android. It's rather exciting and we're ready to get into it! Check it out: http://libgdx.badlogicgames.com/features.html
Expect the trailer on youtube by next Wednesday: 10/2/2013

Iron Dust: Leaving Home and the First Steps

Conveniently picking up from the last post, T1BL33 leaves what is left of his home and starts to follow Garbjord. He takes one more look behind him before pressing forward.

Concept Art: Some More Enemies

Yes, cacti are indeed enemies. They won't be moving much though, and there will be a variety of them varying in size. This is an example from the smaller types that will be placed in the path of the player.

Finishing off this very short update are the vulture enemies. Their design is based slightly off of the masks doctors wore in ye olde plague infested Europe and the claws from those crane games. These dark harbingers of explosive death are way too civilized for close combat. They prefer flying overhead, out of harms way, in order to bombard the player with booms held in their long metal talons. When not raining down fiery doom they enjoy perching on tall cacti.

Game Art Inspiration

The game we are creating has a rocky, desert like landscape. Living near nothing but cornfields, I was not able to go out and look at landscapes for inspiration. The closest that i could get to a desert without traveling, was to look at pictures of a variety of places. I decided to look at national parks for inspiration. The three locations that i used were the Badlands National Park, The Grand Canyon and Salt Lake City, UT.

Hey Everybody! We here at Team 5 have been hard at work, testing out engine designs, and getting the plot down! We are all really excited with the concept art the art team has drawn up and we are also pumped up! So far we have most of the names and plot down which the prior will be revealed hopefully by next week. Allow me to introduce the over arching plot of...

Iron Dust (name subject to change)
In a world of sand and iron, steampunk robots exist in a harsh robot eat robot world, however there is a small village of little robots who have decided to work together to survive. One day a giant robot known as "Garbjord" came and ate the entire village save for one robot, "T1bl33". As the player you must help T1bl33 go after Garbjord to save your friends and defeat the terrifying Garbjord. Along the way, T1bl33 will venture through several different desert/steampunk themed landscapes that will help tell the story of the world of Iron Dust.

Badlands

Badlands Level 3 Concept Art

Salt Flats

Salt Flats (Level 2) Concept Art Draft 1

Concept Art: Enemies

Here is the first sketch of the goat enemy that'll appear in the game. In this first panel I jotted down several shapes for the head and decide on how the exhaust pipe horns will look.

In this second sketch I tried to figure out how the goat's body will look as far as how its body parts relate to one another, and I did a few motion sketches.

This is the last of the preliminary goat drawings and here I focused on what colors will be apart of its pallet and how the hoof might be like. I also jot down a few variations on what its helmet might look like. I see the goat that'll try to ram into the player, head first, at high speeds thanks to the extra thrust it gets from its exhaust pipe horns.

This is the first sketch of the snake enemy. I experimented with some eye and body colors. The snake enemy has a metal rattle at the end of its tail which holds the acid it sprays and/or injects into the player using its large metal fangs.

WELCOME

Hey everyone welcome to the Team5 T1bl33 blog! We are very excited to be working on our first game with the working title "T1BL33" which features a robot of the same name whose village was destroyed by a giant walking city. He decides to go after the city to get his friend back. The world of T1bl33 is a large desert world with several unique environments within. We already have some amazing concept artwork so check it out!
